7 girls who I'm glad are my age

Note 1: About 3 years ago, around the time I really started posting, I did three blog posts - '7 girls I wish were more famous', '7 Indian girls I wish were more famous', and '7 girls I wish were less famous', with a promise and hope that at some point, I would complete 7 posts in the '7 girls' series. This is the 4th post in that series, which I will hopefully complete. Although, considering my current pace, it seems a decade would pass by the time I would be able to do that.

Note 2: 2012 has been a good year for Indian cinema, and with that, have emerged new, fresh faces in the industry. This is my tribute to a memorable year for Indian cinema.

My age is a good age to be. I am making enough money to have a good lifestyle, so life doesn't suck as much (money-wise) as it did when I was in college. There are limited liabilities, and no real "worries" in life. Life's good. The best part about being this age is that most of the beautiful girls we see on-screen are also around this age. This, might be happening for the first time in our lives, when they take a very real form in our head, and the probability of our running into them randomly (at a pub, maybe, or at the airport, and so on) and our picking up a conversation with them and "hitting it off" increases. Albeit minisculely, still. I mean, I can imagine running into one of these girls somewhere and picking up a conversation with them with a "Hey, you know, I wrote a post about you.", and if it doesn't creep them out, I can imagine how awesomely we would get along and have so much fun in the subsequent 4 hours, and maybe a lifetime of togetherness.

So, the girls on this list are around my age, +/- 2 years (remember lifetime of togetherness?), and should have had atleast one release during 2012 (since this is a tribute to a good year for Indian cinema). 

#7 Sonakshi Sinha (25)

She stunned in Dabangg, and I am hoping she would manage it again this year in Dabangg 2. Yes, she's on this list despite the jokes about her forehead.





#6 Shruti Hassan (26)

A singer and a music director too, I'm not sure how her 2012 release 3 performed, but she makes her presence felt in just a few glimpses in the video of the blockbuster song from that movie, Why this Kolaveri Di.

#5 Prachi Desai (24)

I hear Bol Bachchan is a terrible movie, still.

#4 Ileana D'Cruz (25)

What's with the cute persona of South Indian actresses?! Anyway, playing a not-so-likable character in her Hindi debut Barfi!, she manages to hold her own alongside power-packed performances by the leads.

#3 Priya Anand (26)

Yes, she played that very likable (albeit a little cliché) character in English Vinglish, plus she gets bonus points for her name. She looks great in this ad-film, if only we got to see another movie or two which exploit her girl-next-door looks fully.





#2 Yami Gautam (24)

So glad she got a break into movies from doing soap operas such as Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam and Chand Ke Paar Chalo. I suspect Vicky Donor's success had nothing to do with a good script or a clever story. At least I wouldn't have enjoyed a movie about a sperm donor which did not have her. Her next Hindi release is going to be 'Hamara Bajaj', with the same production team as Vicky Donor. Can't wait!

#1 Huma Qureshi (26)

If there is one girl on this list I want to randomly meet somewhere, pickup a conversation, leading to a lifetime of togetherness, she would be the one! Such grace, poise, beauty, and talent! Who needs "size-zero"?! She is just so... real. After two critically acclaimed releases this year (GoW,  Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana), she has two declared upcoming projects, including one to be directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. I don't understand why Ray Ban hasn't signed her up to be the face for their brand in India!

I might have missed considering a few people for this list (à la Nargis Fakhri, Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt, etc.), but that's because I haven't seen them on-screen yet.

#7 Malaika Arora

Before writing about why she should be less famous, I would like to clarify why exactly is she famous. Is it because she was a VJ in some music channel, or because of her appearance in a number of 'item numbers', or the fact that she is married to Arbaaz Khan? She is neither pretty, nor a good actress. As far as item numbers are considered, being famous just because of them?




#6 Priyanka Chopra

She has made it into this list primarily because she won a 'national award' for her role in the movie 'Fashion'. She is considered to be one of the top-rated "actresses" in the Indian film industry today. Let me list down the last five, no wait, ten movies done by her. Pyaar Impossible (bomb), What's Your Raashee?(atom bomb) , Kaminey(surprisingly watchable, but no credit to her), Dostana (crap), Fashion(good, but she over-acted), Drona (nuclear bomb), Chamku (when did this movie come?), God Tussi Great Ho (it went away from the theaters sooner than it came), Love Story 2050 (L.O.L), Big Brother (whatever). Such is the line-up of movies of this "fantastic" actress. Not just acting, even her choice of boyfriends is bad! :D Harman Baweja? Give me a break! The only credit I give her is her lips, they are as gorgeous, if not more, as much as those of Angelina Jolie's.



#5 Kareena Kapoor

This is one actress that gets on my nerves every time I see her (Well, except a few instances). She is responsible for creating all this fuss about being 'size-zero'. She has definitely done some good movies recently, her acting being appreciated even by critics, BUT, more than what she deserves. Being from a family as hers gave her a huge advantage in launching her career. Apparently, she did the same thing to Shahid Kapoor what Brad Pitt did to Jeniffer Aniston. Whats worse is that she has become some sort of an 'idol' for young girls today. Anyway, my respect goes to her for her display of enormous confidence in herself.



 #4 Kristen Stewart

Oh! How vividly do I remember the day when I was watching 'Into the Wild', and was enchanted by Kristen Stewart, and said to myself, "This girl is going to become a very huge superstar one day!" And then came 'Twilight'.And it spoiled everything. Mushy-mushy romance, vampires, and audiences (mostly in their mid-teens) applauding their performances? Why? Why did she have to kill the magic she had created for me? Whats worse is that she doesn't "act" in her movies, THAT is her! Just look at her public speeches at award functions. She is SO awkward, to say the least. I hope she does some quality cinema soon, awes us with her performances, and comes to truly deserve the fame she has received.




#3 Aishwarya Rai

Miss World 1994. Beautiful. Talented. But, what has she done with it? Not many acclaimed movies to her credit. Obsessed with going international in the movie industry. Did a couple of lame movies in Hollywood (Mallika Sherawat did better in going international than her). Used to be constantly in the news due to her relationships with Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi. Married Abhishek Bachchan, who belongs to the first family in the Indian Film Industry. And, somehow, she became the face of Indian women represented abroad. Now, this is something hard to digest for me. Definitely, we have better women in the country who can represent India at a global platform.




#2 Megan Fox

Agreed. Megan Fox is insanely hot. But, that is IT. She is in no way responsible for global warming. She is getting signed on by producers for her looks! And not once, but in every movie that she does! Paparazzi all over the place to get her pictures! Get over her people, there are others who deserve more than her.




#1 Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif has become so famous and loved, that I am scared even to write about her here, forget all the hate-comments I am expecting on this post due to this. Yes, she is charming, and has a smile that can melt you. For the uninitiated, her sister Isabella Kaif looks MUCH better than her. Coming back to Katrina, she is just not fit for the Indian Film Industry. She lacks acting skills, and is taller than most Indian actors, has a body which is almost masculine. Her accent sounds fake on-screen, and to cover all that, all she does is put on a lovely smile! What is wrong with everyone? A song like 'Teri Ore, Teri Ore', where all she does is stand and smile, is enough to blow away everyone's wits? I would have forgotten all this, but the fact that she is dating someone who is 20 years older than herself is just too hard to digest for me. :P

Note 1: The common complaint for my last post was that it did not have any Indian girls on the list (excluding the half-Indian at #7). The reason I did that is because it is difficult to compile a list of Indian girls about whom people have not heard already. But, by popular demand, here it is, a similar list consisting only of Indian girls. I hope you like this list as much as you liked the previous one :)

Note 2: My previous post on '7 girls I wish were more famous' received the maximum traffic any of my posts has had since I started blogging, which made me wonder if, for some people, that is what all there is to internet - girls.

#7 Kulraj Randhawa

You would  know her if you watched the hit TV series on Zee TV, 'Kareena Kareena'. She is more bubbly than a bottle of Pepsi. She did a Punjabi movie called 'Mannat' (which I have have watched :| ). She is also features in the upcoming 'Chintuji' :'(. My point in listing out the names of the movies she has worked in is that she definitely deserves better.





#6 Jennifer Kotwal


You would remember this Parsi model and actress if you've seen 'Just Mohabbat' on Sony TV when you were a kid. She's acted in a couple of mainstream movies in Indian cinema, like 'Yaadein', but her film career did not get a kick start. She is starring in an upcoming movie against Himesh Reshammiya :'( Though I guess she has had quite a success in the Kannada film industry. Anyone willing to enlighten me about her stint with the Kannada film industry is requested to write about it in the comments :)





#5 Nandana Sen

I wish/hope/pray to God that this girl has inherited her thinking-genes from her father (Amartya Sen) AND her mother (Nabaneeta Dev, a prominent Bengali author), in which case, she would become a manifestation of a perfect woman :D She looks like a more refined version of Konkona Sen Sharma, like some vintage wine in a new bottle. She has starred in a couple of successful Indian movies, including 'Black', which was critically acclaimed.




#4 Tulip Joshi

Ok, I agree, she is already famous, but she deserves more! And, she is not 100% Indian, she is half-Armenian (and, Armenia is a beautiful country :D ). She has a face chiseled to perfection, too bad she couldn't make it really big in the Indian film industry. She has starred in 'Mere Yaar ki Shaadi hai', 'Dil Maange More', and 'Mathrubhoomi' (in which her acting was critically acclaimed).




#3 Shazahn Padamsee

Daughter of ad-guru Alyque Padamsee and pop-diva Sharon Prabhakar, she has a name which has been invented by her father, and according to him, 'Shazahn' means 'the queen of the world'. Recently, she starred in 'Rocket Singh', and has a long way to go to become the queen of bollywood, and our hearts :D




#2 Sheetal Sheth

Born in New Jersey to Gujarati Jain parents, Sheetal Sheth is based in the United States and has mostly worked abroad till now. Watch out for the Sheetal Sheth-Lisa Ray pair in 'I Can't Think Straight' and 'The World Unseen'. You might need to wear sunglasses to bear the radiance that this pair of two of the most beautiful women give to the screen in these movies.




#1 Jesse Randhawa

A model turned actress, she is a trained dancer in Rumba, Salsa, and Viennese Waltz. She has worked in movies like 'Gulaal', and the little screen presence that she has in the movie is enough to make you fall in love with her. She has a truly global look and appeal, I wish she gets more projects in the future.
